The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism reiterated its intention to directly execute the budget to local sports associations and sports organizations.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a meeting in the sports field presided over by Minister Yoo In-chon at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 2nd to share the status of preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics and to express its position on pending issues in the sports world.
"The sports system centered on the Korean Sports Council has reached its limit," said Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon, who ignited the reorganization of the budget support system at a meeting of retired athletes from the Korea Volleyball Association and the women's volleyball team on the 20th of last month.

Minister Yoo, who has been at odds with Lee Ki-heung, chairman of the Korea Sports Council, over sports policies since last year, said, "The sports council calls for autonomy against the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, but seems to oppose the autonomy of member sports organizations and local sports associations."

He then mentioned the direct budget execution again, saying, "One of the various discussions to strengthen the autonomy of the sports world is the direct issuance of the budget."

Lee Jung-woo, director of the sports bureau at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "We are currently in talks with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and we need to approach it in detail considering the division of member sports organizations and local sports associations. The government budget will be submitted to the Ministry of Economy and Finance as of May 30 every year, and the government budget will be finalized at the end of August."

"If Korean sports has been doing well, there is no need to change the system," Director Lee said. "As our sports is currently experiencing a crisis, the government should make sure that Korean sports can take a leap forward with the most powerful means of budget funding."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism emphasized that if Korea's sports have been supported in general, individual and sophisticated support is needed now.

"Even now, if the government does not step up for the development of Korean sports, if there is a problem at the Olympics four years later or eight years later, this is the abandonment of (the government's) duties," he added.

In the end, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's plan to put aside the Korean Sports and Olympic Committee and directly give budgets to local sports and member sports organizations was a way to revitalize daily sports and strengthen the international competitiveness of Korea's elite sports.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is also considering issuing budgets to local sports organizations through provincial offices of education and local governments to increase transparency and efficiency in budget execution.

Regarding the Korea Sports Council's claim that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's direct execution of the budget may violate the National Sports Promotion Act, Director Lee Jung-woo said, "The authority to interpret and enforce the law lies with the government department," adding, "The government accurately interprets and enforces the law, not violates the law."

The ministry also made it clear that if the sports council asks the ministry to approve a revision to the articles of association that removed the term limit for the heads of sports organizations after a general meeting of representatives on the 3rd, it will reject it.

Minister Yoo In-chon confirmed, "I will never approve the revision of the articles of incorporation."

Lee Ki-heung, the current chairman of the Sports Council, who became the first head of the Integrated Sports Council in 2016, has been re-elected once and has been in office for eight years, and even if the current articles of association are maintained, he can seek a third term after being reviewed by the Sports Fair Commission.

Minister Yoo said, "(Even if Chairman Lee is elected in next year's election for the chairman of the sports association), if the sports association will do as it is now, it should not pay 480 billion won a year to the sports association." 바카라사이트 추천

Minister Yoo said, "The Ministry of National Defense and the Military Manpower Administration have not yet asked us to discuss the issue officially," adding, "We cannot completely abolish it and will find a reasonable way."
